“Joe the Plumber” defends claim that gun control caused the Holocaust

Sam Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” reached out to PTP today to defend his rather ludicrous claim that had there not been gun control laws in Germany in 1939, millions would have never been killed during the Holocaust.
“People are pissed because I told the cold hard truth they don't want to hear!” Wurzelbacher said, reaching us via an email packed with typos and misspellings that we carefully reconstructed into English. “Guns don't kill people, they save people! And if people were allowed to own guns back in Germany, 1939, Someone would've shot Hitler right in that stupid little Michael Jordan mustache of his!”
We responded to Wurzelbacher's email by pointing out that armed citizens are no match for trained soldiers, that most German households didn't contain firearms before those laws came into effect, and that the Holocaust affected millions of people from outside Germany, and that some of the hardest-hit countries, like Poland, didn't have stringent gun control policies before Germany's Blitzkrieg attacks. We also mentioned that organized armies fell to the Nazi war machine as well. After these statements, we asked if Mr. Wurzelbacher had anything else to say on the subject.
“Stupid liberal lamestream media! You don't get it, do you? If they never made guns illegal in Germany in 1939, someone would have shot Hitler in 1940! It's not like Hitler came into power in 1933, and it's not like the Nazi's started pushing their radical, racist agenda almost immediately, and started making power grabs in 1937 and 1938 with annexations that were clear indications to Europe and the United States that war was imminent! Gun control laws, and probably homosexuality and Obamacare, caused World War II!” - Return to Previous Page
