Romney booed repeatedly while trying to court black voters
7/11/2012 3:05 PM Matt Rock -
Mitt Romney made headlines earlier today when he was booed after promising to repeal the Affordable Care Act, better known as “Obamacare,” while speaking at an NAACP event. But while the media only managed to pick up on the first booing interruption, PTP stayed with the story until Romney left the stage, and as such, we're the only major national news outlet reporting all of the other times Romney was booed during his speech.
Romney's first instance of getting booed – the only one the media paid attention to – resulted from the presidential candidate announcing that he'd repeal Obamacare if he gets elected in November. The audience railed on him for approximately 15 seconds, but then calmed down enough that Romney could march into a series of several more gaffes.
“You often hear conservatives like me complaining about `Hollywood liberals,' but I'm not that kind of guy,” Romney stated later in his speech. “I think Hollywood movies are absolutely vital to our culture and our way of life in this country. And I love all sorts of movies, too. I'm not a big fan of that `Tyler Perry' guy though. His movies are pretty crappy. I love the business model of shooting low-budget movies and turning huge profits, but yeah, he's a pretty terrible director, and his jokes never make sense to me.”
The audience booed for nearly a full minute before Romney changed the subject. About ten minutes later, his third booing came around. “... so that's why I believe Kanye and Kim Kardashian are going to stay together forever. They're perfect for each other. He's a wealthy and talented hip hop artist that can have any woman he wants. And she's a spoiled gold-digger. But he wrote a song about girls like her, and she ain't goin' with no broke... uh... yeah, go ahead and boo and just get that out of your systems, I'm booing myself for where I was going on that one.”
But the biggest booing... one that involved chairs being thrown at Romney... came near the end of his speech. “In conclusion, I'm hoping that black voters will switch teams and vote for me, Mitt Romney, to be America's next president. Because let's be honest here, folks, I'm an old, rich white guy. We've been running things since the dawn of time. Management is in my blood! Ow! Who through that?!” - Return to Previous Page
