Romney campaign celebrates huge financial gains with Romney-themed “fair”

5/18/2012 9:50 AM Matt Rock - Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is looking quite a bit stronger, after it reported that in April, the former Massachusetts governor brought in $40.1 million in campaign donations, nearly matching President Obama's donations of $43.6 million. To celebrate the windfall, campaign staffers organized an impromptu “Conservative Fair” in the tossup state of North Carolina, where the Democrats will be hosting their convention in September.

The Romney-themed fair served as both a campaign event, where visitors learned about Mitt Romney and were reminded that Obama probably isn't American, and also as a chance for campaign staffers to kick back and relax a bit after an oftentimes contentious primary battle in which Romney was almost always labeled the second-favorite.

“It was a lot of fun, let me tell you,” said fair-goer Roger Watson, 43, who attended with his wife and three kids. “They had a bunch of really fun games, like the `dunk the poor' booth where you could drop a homeless guy into a pool of water after you bitched him out for not being wealthy and taunting him with a sandwich. And they had a Ferris wheel, too, with special kennels on top of each basket so your family pets could join in the fun! I'm a registered, lifelong Democrat, but I'm totally voting for Romney after all this!”

Romney himself failed to attend the fair, opting instead to send in a different mannequin that looked just like him. No one in attendance at the event could apparently tell the difference, as many claimed they had riveting conversations with Romney which “went exactly as I would have expected a conversation with Mitt Romney to go.”
