Romney takes a stand against lawmaker who cited violent anti-gay bible passage

In his quest to move back to the center after a vitriolic, right-wing primary campaign, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney went on the offensive today against Representative Andy Gipson, a Mississippi State House Republican who recently posted a Facebook message quoting a bible verse that calls for the death of homosexuals.
“You can be opposed to gay marriage or gay rights, without turning to violence,” said Romney, who has been accused repeatedly of bullying gays in his past. “We all know that Jesus hated gayness and that the bible teaches us that being gay is a terrible lifestyle worthy of a good ole' fashioned stoning. But pointing that out to the gay community is just flat-out wrong.”
One reporter asked if Romney was arguing against the Bible itself. “Look, I'm a good, Mormon-space-Jesus-fearing man of cult... err... faith. I believe in the Bible, I love the Bible. But someone needs to stand up for the rights of gays, at least to the point where they aren't being murdered. I'm that candidate. I'm way gayer than Obama will ever be. That's right, gay people... vote Romney in 2012!”
Gipson refuses to apologize for the quote. “I want the world to know that I do not, cannot,a nd will not apologize for the inspired truth of God's word. It is one thing that will never `change.' Anyone who knows me knows I also believe that all people are created in God's image, and that all people are loved by God... except for gays, non-Christians, Obama, soccer fans, the entire cast of `Glee,' Bill Clinton, and anyone that doesn't have precisely the same skin color as me, other than John Boehner of course, but no one has the same skin color as he does, unless they drink way too much Tang.” - Return to Previous Page
