NY Senate candidate invited to Kentucky after claiming she would marry her own mother

United States Senate Candidate Wendy Long, a Republican running for Kirsten Gillibrand's seat in New York State, has been invited by several lawmakers in Kentucky to move down to their State and campaign there, after Long claimed in a recent interview that she would have married her own mother if she'd been given the option to do so.
Long, a fervent opponent of gay rights and marriage equality, was defending a so-called “legal analysis” she made in August of 2010, where she said that gay marriage would lead to people marrying their pets, as well as people marrying their own parents. She said recently that she “would have loved” to marry her own mother.
“I know that sorta thing is frowned on by them fancy East Coast Liberal elite folk up in New York, but down here in Kentucky, why, I think Wendy Long will fit right in like a farmer and a sheep and a... uh... what was I saying?” said, and asked, Kentucky State Senator Jed-Jimbo-Billy-George Springfield Jr., a former NASCAR driver who entered public service after playing a country album in reverse. “She sure is pretty, yes sir! And she can marry anybody she wants down here in good ole' Kentucky, so long as they ain't, you know, queer or Muslim or nothin'.”
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear (D), however, was quick to shoot down Springfield's offer. “Do you have any idea how hard it is being a Democrat in one of the reddest States in America? And then this Springfield jerk goes and says something like that? Kentucky IS NOT as ass-backwards as the rest of the country thinks we are! That's Tennessee!” - Return to Previous Page
