Former education advisor explains team Romney departure to PTP
Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook
6/13/2012 10:17 AM Matt Rock - In May, former Bush-era Education Secretary Margaret Spellings stepped down from her role in the Romney campaign as education advisor, telling the New York Times that she differed with the former Massachusetts Governor on school vouchers and the role of the federal government in public education. But the talentless hacks over at the New York Times failed to expose that there was another, more serious reason for Spellings' departure from team Romney: Team Romney couldn't spell.

“The word `Spelling' is right in my name. You have no idea how irritating it was to see these memos and read these quotes, day in and day out, that weren't spelled properly,” explained Spellings, who told all of this to PTP rather than the NYT because PTP is, quite frankly, better at journalism than they are. “You have no idea how irritating it is to spend your whole day correcting typos and researching subject matter to make sure a whole campaign isn't marching into another gaffe. It drives me crazy.”

I explained to her that I'm the editor at PTP, and that my fellow writers are all comedians with writing skills, rather than writers with comedy skills, showing her that I, too, lose entire days to that sort of thing (just kidding gang! Please don't draw pictures on the dry-erase board in my office of me having... well, just don't draw anything!). “Yeah, it's very time-consuming. Mitt Romney's positions on education – you know, when they aren't changing every thirty seconds along with everything else – are enough to drive someone nuts. Vouchers, his threatening language with regards to teachers, he'd set our education system back fifty years if he's elected. Add typos into that, and you have a real mess.”

We asked Spellings what she thought of all the typo gaffes the Romney campaign has endured since she left. “It didn't surprise me. I once got a memo that read... here, I'll write it down for you... `pls bee redy for wendsday nite we got sht to do!' This was an almost constant occurrence with the campaign. I can all but promise you more typos are on the way, too. Maybe they should hire some of those New York Times editors. It'd make their paper way better, that's for sure!”
