Team Romney launches new “copycat campaign,” hopes to annoy Obama out of the race
6/14/2012 3:15 PM Matt Rock -
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may have found a solution to his trailing poll numbers and weak electoral math. Starting today, Romney's campaign will begin to copy President Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaign ads, using the same themes, the same music, and almost exactly the same words. Their goal? Annoy President Obama into abandoning his 2012 bid entirely, leaving the White House to Mitt Romney virtually without challenge.
The former prep school bully's campaign released a 30-second TV spot this morning attacking President Obama for his recent comment that “the public sector is doing fine,” and news outlets immediately discovered that the ad carbon-copies one released by Obama's 2008 campaign, attacking John McCain for saying “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” And according to senior-level Romney campaign staffers, it's all a part of their “copycat” stratagem.
“Children sometimes win arguments by simply repeating everything the other person says, until they're frustrated and annoyed into submission,” explains Romney Campaign Manager Matt Rhoades. “Our campaign already spells like children, so this seemed like the logical next move for us. We're expecting Obama to completely abandon his campaign by August. He may even quit his job and leave the White House early, by October if we keep this going.”
Rhoades explains that the campaign examined a number of similar tactics as well. “We looked at an `I know you are but what am I?' strategy, and almost went with it. Other ideas included telling America that Obama has cooties, having Mitt Romney cry on camera until America bought him a toy and voted for him, having him yell `I hate you!' and running off to his room thereby forcing America to apologize and elect him, and having Mitt go door to door, inviting male voters to play `army' and female voters to play `house' in red states, and `doctor' in heathen blue states. I think we made the best call, though. No one on our staff wants to see Mitt Romney get sent to his room.” - Return to Previous Page
