House GOP makes it official; they really dislike President Obama
Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook
6/29/2012 10:05 AM Alyson Durden - Congress set another historical milestone this week when it passed a "sense of the House" resolution affirming they do not like President Obama, nor do they want him to be reelected in November. This was a symbolic gesture as such resolutions are passed when the majority of the members want to express a thought or opinion. This follows the unprecedented move of holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his role in the "fast and furious" program, which most Americans supported because they believed it was done to hold him accountable for the horrible string of movies with the same name.

House Resolution 1776 (H. Res 1776) is also one of the shortest ever passed. "Whereas the House of Representatives has more Republicans than Democrats; whereas the country has become more partisan and petty and whereas Twitter and Facebook no longer provide an adequate enough platform for our displeasure, now be it resolved that we affirm that no member of our party likes President Obama -- at all, not even a little bit -- and that we will all vote against him in November. Be it further resolved that any Republican found to have voted for this president will be kicked out of our club, their keys to the treehouse behind the RNC taken back and our secret handshake changed."

Most House Democrats walked out of the vote against Holder, but some stayed for its passage. "There is no way I was going to miss that vote. Watching both the more extreme members' glee at being able to get up on the floor and speak for a minute just about how much they dislike President Obama and then the more rational members struggle with voting for such ridiculousness was beyond priceless. It was one of those times I really wished food was allowed on the floor. No show has ever been more deserving of some movie style popcorn," said Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fl). "It was better than 'Cats.'"

Some speculated that this was more about intra-party bickering, as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) was reportedly upset that he was upstaged by Chairman of the House Reform and Government Reform Committee Darrell Issa (R-Ca). Issa's committee recommended the Holder vote. Sources close to Cantor said "he thinks he is the only one who should be allowed to say 'no' to the Obama administration." Others speculated that Cantor's "feelings were hurt" when Issa RSVPed to Cantor's birthday party but didn't show up, something that "really ate away at Eric, he just couldn't let it go."

Veteran political reporters and analysts were unfazed by the development. Famed political historian John Halpern told reporters, "Remember who we are talking about here. This is the House of Representatives. The only reason they don't have fist fights and throw food at each other is that it is against the rules, which someone actually enforces, unlike everything else around there. It really is a lot like kindergarten on that side of the Hill."
