Romney VP pick will be human, sources say
7/7/2012 10:07 AM Alyson Durden
Speculation about who will be chosen to be Mitt Romney's running mate continued unabated today, but sources close to the campaign have revealed one concrete detail; the pick will be human. This may put to rest the rumors that the former Massachusetts governor was looking at either robots to make him look more interesting, or maybe a cute animal to make him seem more likable. Some had thought he would pick a cat, given the media frenzy that erupted after the story of his dog Seamus riding on top the family car surfaced last year.
"Picking the veep candidate is not just about making Mitt look good," Will Carson, a close family friend, told reporters. "It has to be someone who can lead on day-one. He's pretty convinced a robot could do it, and after George W. Bush's presidency, he thinks most house cats have the mental acumen to tackle the role, but the country is just not ready for a non-human president, and that's what's driving this decision. We're not there in 2012, maybe in 2016 but not 2012."
Some wasted no time expressing their displeasure over the decision. Toonces Calvin, the driving cat from Saturday Night Live who had briefly been a presidential candidate in his own right last year, said this has sealed his support for President Obama. "I was really thinking about voting for Romney. I mean, he clearly has the same opinion about dogs that I do. And that seemed to be enough for me. If he had just picked a human, I might have been ok with it, but to come out as so strongly anti-feline, well, I can't vote for such nonsense," he said.
While pundits and political junkies remain fixated on this question, average voters seemed uninterested. Barney Taylor told us, "This thing is still going on? I thought it ended months ago!" - Return to Previous Page
