Gay Rights advocates fear Obama may be gay

There is growing concern among gay rights advocates that President Obama may be gay. At a conference for the Gay Power Coalition in San Francisco last weekend, several attendees expressed concern that the Obama Administration’s failure to stand up for gay rights might be the result of the President, in the words of Coalition spokesperson Perry Beckner, “finally realizing that he, like all of us, is a total flamer.” According to Beckner, Obama shows all the signs of a person on the verge of coming out of the “Oval Closet”. “He bends over backwards to compromise, he consults with our allies before making foreign policy decisions, and he always wears the perfect tie. Honey, that man’s a bigger queen than I am!”
Ironically, the possibility that the President may be gay does not excite members of the gay movement. In the current political environment, gays want a forceful advocate in the White House, someone whose out of control heterosexuality makes him crazy enough to knock a few heads in order to make progress on gay rights issues. For that reason, some leaders of the movement have indicated that they would welcome any help that Michelle Obama could provide to help push her husband back toward the heterosexual realm.
Others see this as the perfect time for the President to come out. Susan Brink, editor of the online gay and lesbian forum “The Fluid Exchange” insists that having an openly gay President would, in the long run, encourage healthy discussion about what it means to be homosexual. “The President is in a unique position to use the the butchy pulpit to get the word out that there is nothing wrong with being in a, well, unique position.”
Not everyone feels the same way Brink does about the possibility of the President veering from the narrow and straight. On his show this morning, conservative talk radio personality Rush Limbaugh responded to the news that not only is the current occupant of the White House an African American Democrat, but he might also be gay, by spontaneously combusting. - Return to Previous Page
