Obama tries to capitalize on Romney gaffes, goes pro-England

7/27/2012 7:05 AM Matt Rock - President Obama is stirring up a new controversy today after attempting to pick up some ground on his presidential election rival, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, by launching a “pro-England” campaign aimed at showing citizens of the UK living in the United States that he respects them.

Things started out innocently enough early this morning as the President spoke at a fundraiser. “I love the UK. I'm a fan of soccer, or what you folks call `football.' I love fish and chips. And British rock and roll music has given us some of the best songs in that genre. Great Britain is pretty cool.”

The crowd applauded and cheered approvingly, but not knowing when to leave a good thing alone, President Obama continued. “Not all Americans have this appreciation of the United Kingdom that I have. Not all Americans think the Queen is as sexy as I think she is. She's a total GILF, and if you don't know what that means, I can't really say it.”

The audience broke down into mutterings, with a few in the crowd laughing, and one woman booing. But the President tried to recuperate from the gaffe. “I love British television, too. Lots of great British shows out there. We should know, here in America... you guys stole all of those shows from us, like American Idol, and Top Gear, and Absolutely Fabulous. Not every country can be entertainment innovators, but you guys plagiarize in a really classy way!”
