Rupert Murdoch to increase spying in wake of phone hacking scandal
Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook
7/23/2011 8:43 PM Frank Walters - Rupert Murdoch first responded to the phone hacking scandal that was uncovered at his News of the World tabloid newspaper with public apologies. But now, Murdoch has changed his tune and said spying would only increase at the many media outlets he owns worldwide.

The News Corporation chairman and CEO said in a press conference today that no potential source would be exempt from these "investigative techniques," as he called them. Murdoch stated that crime victims, politicians, clergy and even small children are all fair game.

"I'll do what I want and I'll certainly never let anybody stand in my way of it," Murdoch said as he pounded his fist on a table. "I got where I am today by crushing everyone in my path, not by making any public apologies to anyone."

According to Murdoch, he will establish a journalism espionage training program at all of his media holdings, which include the New York Post and Fox News.

He said reporters would learn such tools as computer network hacking, intercepting mail, installing hidden cameras and even the proper techniques of digging through trash.

"I need more money and reporting this kind of news is definitely the way to get it," the billionaire said. "Everyone knows that the Fox Network is full of garbage reality shows and other inane crap. I obviously can't count on that to make money too much longer.”

During the press conference, a young reporter asked Murdoch how he would respond to those who claim the spying techniques violate journalistic ethics.

"Nothing is private," Murdoch growled back at the reporter. "I have a right to find out whatever I want. So take your 'ethics' back to Harvard, Yale or wherever you came from, pretty boy."
