“Game of Thrones” writer to speak at Democratic National Convention

George R.R. Martin, author of the popular book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” upon which the smash hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” is based, has been booked to speak at the Democratic National Convention In Charlotte, North Carolina in early September. Martin recently made headlines when he used his blog to attack Republicans over their recent attempts at alleged voter suppression, though this is the first time he's ever been invited to speak at a major political event.
“Winter is coming. I am honored humbly by the seven Gods to be invited cordially to this most splendid event,” Martin announced. “Never has there been a greater need for such an important calling. Winter is coming. Mitt Romney is gaining traction in this election, and Barack Obama serves as the closest thing to a Night's Watch that we have. The election is in November... and winter is coming.”
Martin has already made his mark on the convention. According to PTP's Special Convention Correspondent, Alyson Durden, Martin arrived in Charlotte earlier today to make sure adequate preparations were in order for the four-day convention, helping organizers spruce up the event in many of the same ways he's helped the HBO series to reach ratings gold.
“I never knew just how serious a role George played on the show until now,” Durden explained. “He helped the DNC realize that the convention didn't have enough sex scenes. He said `if there aren't nude people getting it on every five minutes, albeit straight, gay, or group sex, this convention will not be successful.' So there are lots of nude women scheduled in the convention now. The Republican convention doesn't have a chance. No one wants to see Mitch McConnell prancing around in a two-piece. But I have to admit... if he says `winter is coming' one more time I might lose it.”
Sources say that organizers of the Republican National Convention in Tampa are planning to invade Charlotte during the Democrats' event, possibly costumed as a Dothraki horde. However, the DNC is rumored to have already planned out a contingency effort should that happen, with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi scaring them off while dressed up as White Walkers. Our sources in the DNC say that Reid and Pelosi were specifically chosen to lead the counter-attack, noting “come on, they already look like zombies!” - Return to Previous Page
