George Orwell's spirit conjured in seance, says he regrets writing "1984"

3/11/2012 7:05 AM Alyson Durden - The ghost of late author George Orwell was recently contacted in a Capitol Hill seance, and the deceased writer said he is pretty upset about all the comparisons recently made to his famous novel, "1984," telling the medium that he wishes the book had stayed in his head.

"When I wrote that book, I was in a pretty dark place. I had just lost a job, my home life was a wreck, and I just felt awful about the world. I had no idea people would spend the next 50 years or more using it for their own personal gain. I mean, why do American politicians and their supporters always think their country is becoming a totalitarian state? It isn't. They aren't living in a `1984' situation. If I had known my work would ever be used this way, I never would have written that damn book."

Ron Paul shot back at the author by telling reporters, "What the hell does he know about American politics or our system? For starters he has been dead a long time. Then you have to remember, he was British, so he really knows nothing of what we do over here. I see FEMA coming into our communities and telling people what's what and I know we are living in `1984,' I don't care what the book's dead author thinks. Dagnammit, he is just crazy!"

Others agreed with the author. Robert Harvey, professor of political science at Stony Brook University, said, "I could not agree more with Mr. Orwell. We see his book everywhere because we are so freaking paranoid in this country. Anytime the government does anything we react like they are taking our rights away, even when they are not. What? You want me to have healthcare? How dare you! We really get worked up over all the wrong things. And it is just tiresome to bring up that book all the time. I wish he had never written it, too."
