Al Gore courts GOP figures, hopes to find a conservative host for Current TV

4/5/2012 3:40 PM Matt Rock - Former Vice President Al Gore, who co-owns the Current TV television network with business mogul Joel Hyatt, is reportedly courting a number of famous GOP figures with the hopes of offering them a television program. Current TV made headlines recently after its firing of Keith Olbermann, and now, due to the networks lackluster ratings, it might face getting dropped by Time Warner Cable nationwide.

“Al Gore contacted me about hosting a show. I'm mulling it over,” said GOP primary frontrunner Mitt Romney. “He wants his network to take on more of a neutral viewpoint, in the hopes of bringing in more viewers. But I told him that if I lose the 2012 election, I'd be interested in chatting with him about it. I mean, sure, I'm a GOP figure `today,' but I can be more liberal if he wants me to be. I'm dynamic that way... like an Etch a Sketch.”

“I told Gore I wasn't interested,” explained Newt Gingrich. “The show seemed like a decent offer, but he wasn't willing to fill up the commercial breaks with plugs for all of my books and straight-to-DVD movies. I mean, come on... they didn't want to deal with Olbermann because they think he has an ego? Wait 'til they get a load of me!”

But most surprising was that Gore made an offer to Sarah Palin. “I was, you know, surprised by that, because gee, he was the President of America in the 1980's, and it's like, `hey, what are you thinking, that's Reagan's time!' But I was born to be a star, or Vice President, or maybe I could be like that girl from that Jewish liberal elitist show `Seinfeld' on that new HBO show where she's the Vice President. I tried pitching that to Gore but he rolled his eyes and left, saying `what was I thinking.' He was probably thinking about if he left the oven on or not, I do that all the time, you betcha!”
