Politicians fearful that New Jersey corruption law might spread nationally
4/10/2012 10:30 AM Matt Rock -
Fearing for their jobs, Democrats and Republicans in Washington DC uncharacteristically joined forces this past weekend, in an effort to stop New Jersey's new anti-corruption law from spreading nationwide. Politicians are concerned that the law, which would suspend officials indicted on corruption charges without pay, might get picked up on a national level, changing the face of politics forever.
“Corruption charges are a slippery slope, and all they really do is ruin lives,” said House Speaker John Boehner, who cried when he realized our phone conversation was cutting into his annual tanning appointments. “They usually happen at a State level, with people like Carl Kruger and Tim Cahill serving as recent examples of corruption, but if we really looked at corruption on the national political stage, we'd run out of politicians pretty darn fast.”
“If the people of Nevada, or the nation, knew all the things I've done since taking office, I'd probably spend the rest of my life in prison,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. “I think laws like that in New Jersey are careless, thoughtless, and reckless. I vow to use every inch and ounce of my political power to develop solutions for ridding Washington of these heinous, offensive corruption laws.”
Several politicians are currently working on a bipartisan bill that would prohibit Congress from ever proposing, or signing, any law related to political corruption. However, many insiders warn that the bill might never make it to the House floor, as representatives have been using intimidation and bribery to attach several unrelated riders to the bill, all for the benefit of their favorite lobbyists. - Return to Previous Page
