Michele Bachmann defends “tar baby” quote, says Obama doesn't have a baby or tar

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who recently gave an interview where she claimed that President Obama proposing an end to oil speculation was like “waiving a tar baby in the air,” has gone on a full-defensive today as mainstream media sources begin picking up the story.
“People are saying I'm racist. This is nothing more than biased liberal mainstream media nonsense,” Bachmann told PTP moments ago. “You can always count on liberals to point at something you say or do and call it `racist,' just because you're disagreeing with Obama, who just happens to be black. The term `tar baby' is from Br'er Rabbit. It has never been used as a racist term, ever, by anyone. Liberals are just making that up.”
“I really don't see why anyone is offended by that statement,” Bachmann continued. “The President's youngest daughter is what, ten or eleven? He doesn't even have a baby! And he's never worked in the oil industry or as a public worker, so does he own any tar? Nope. So the President doesn't even have a baby, OR tar. I don't understand how this was offensive toward him.”
“Stuff like this only detracts from real change in Washington. Using the term `tar baby' isn't racist. I'm not racist for using it. And the more time we waste debating this stuff, the less time we're spending on the issues that matter to real Americans, like lowering taxes for the wealthy. It's like the Constitution is a javelin, and President Obama is trying to see how far he can throw it. We can't let that spear-chucker get away with chucking the Constitution like a spear! But I'll bet you whatever you want to wager that some stupid liberal is going to take offense to that analogy, too!” - Return to Previous Page
